Eliminating the need for active scans is not a benefit of the Passive Vulnerability Scanner (PVS). PVS operates by monitoring network traffic and identifying vulnerabilities without actively probing or scanning systems. While PVS offers several advantages, including the ability to monitor networks across various operating systems, conduct continuous monitoring without requiring active scans, and identify vulnerabilities in areas that may be difficult or impossible to scan actively, it still does not replace the necessity of active scanning. Active scans are often required to obtain a comprehensive view of network security, validating findings and ensuring that the vulnerabilities detected are accurately assessed. Therefore, while PVS is an excellent complement to active scanning methodologies, it does not wholly eliminate the need for those scans in a robust security posture.
